Texas Tech Athletics announced Wednesday that all-time Red Raider great Graham Harrell will be enshrined as the 12th member of the Texas Tech Ring of Honor.
Texas Tech says that Harrell’s name will be revealed on the West Stadium Building at Jones AT&T Stadium at halftime during the Oct. 25 between the Red Raiders and Oklahoma State.
Harrell was a standout quarter during his time with a record-setting Tech offense. In four years, Harrell threw for over 15,000 yards and finished fourth in Heisman voting during his senior season in 2008.
Harrell holds school records in many offensive categories, including passing yards, touchdown passes, and completions. He also broke many NCAA records during his tenure at TTU and is still top five in passing yards and completions. In 2007, Harrell thew for 5,705 yards which ranks third all-time in NCAA history for passing yards in a season.
During a memorable 2008 season, Harrell led the Red Raiders to a 11-1 record and won a piece of the Big 12 championship before falling to the Ole Miss Rebels in the Cotton Bowl. Harrell won many awards during his time at Tech, including the Sammy Baugh Trophy winner as a junior in 2007 and the Johnny Unitas Award, AT&T All-America Player of the Year and Sporting News Co-Player of the Year honors in 2008.
Harrell was also a leader in the classroom, earning three Academic All-Big 12 honors, a 2008 National Football Foundation National Scholar-Athlete award and was a finalist for the NFF William V. Campbell Trophy.
After earning his degree in history in 2008, Harrell spent a couple of years in the Canadian Football League with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and earned a Super Bowl ring with the Green Bay Packers as a backup quarterback from 2010-2012.
Harrell was named the new offensive coordinator for Abilene Christian University in January 2025.
In addition to this honor, Harrell will also be inducted into the NFF College Football Hall of Fame later on this year.
“We are proud to celebrate not only Graham’s induction into the Ring of Honor this season but also his selection to the College Football Hall of Fame,” Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt said. “He represents the best of the best of Texas Tech Football, and we’re excited to add his name to the walls of Jones AT&T Stadium to live on in history.”
The Texas Tech Football Ring of Honor was established in 2012 to select an elite group of former players and coaches that made outstanding contributions to Red Raider football.
Harrell will be the first player inducted since Wes Welker in 2024.
