Temperatures in Fort Worth this week are expected to hit the mid-to-upper 90s, but how many 100-degree days will North Texas experience this summer? 

Will it be warmer or even slightly cooler than years past? Meteorologists at Star-Telegram news partner WFAA took a guess, based on the current year’s weather and the amount of 100-degree days in years past. Most predicted an increase in 100-degree days on the horizon this year than in 2024.

Fort Worth experienced its first 90-degree day of 2025 on March 25 and its first 95-degree day on May 25. As of June 25, Fort Worth has not experienced 100-degree temperatures. In 2024, Fort Worth’s first 100-degree day came on June 23, according to the National Weather Service. 

That year, Fort Worth recorded 23 days where the temperature exceeded 100 degrees. That number was down from 55 days of 100-degree temps in 2023.

100-degree days over the past five years: 

• 2024: 23 
• 2023: 55 
• 2022: 47 
• 2021: 8

Summer heat outlook for 2025 

WFAA and the Farmers’ Almanac are both forecasting a warmer year than last year in Fort Worth, despite the lack of 100-degree days so far, due to multiple factors. 

WFAA meteorologist Jesse Hawila says ENSO (El Niño-Southern Oscillation) neutral conditions are expected through the summer months this year, which can create hot summers like in 1980 and 2011.

The Farmers’ Almanac’s long-range forecast for Fort Worth includes a warm and dry summer with the hottest periods occurring in late June, early and late July, and early and mid-August. Fort Worth, according to the Almanac, is not positioned for much precipitation relief from the warmer temperatures until mid-to-late July. 

The Almanac predicts a possible tropical storm threat from July 13-16, then a few scattered thunderstorms throughout the rest of the month, paired with the high temperatures.
