Dear Hiring Manager,
My name is Alyssa Cooper, and I am a multimedia sports journalist and recent graduate of Florida A&M University with a passion for telling stories that extend beyond the game itself. Growing up as a fan of college baseball, I was drawn to local and regional newspapers that provided depth, context, and storytelling that brought programs to life. That early interest has since developed into a commitment to producing thoughtful, impactful journalism.
Through multiple professional experiences, I have refined my reporting skills across print, digital, and broadcast platforms. From covering the Texas Rangers ahead of the MLB trade deadline to reporting on FAMU coaching hires and TCU postseason baseball, I prioritize accuracy, urgency, and clarity in my work. I have also contributed to live production at ESPN’s SEC Network, where I cut highlights and help shape storytelling under tight deadlines, while continuing to build my foundation in deadline reporting through work with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and FAMU-TV 20.
In addition to daily coverage, I have developed strong research and interviewing skills through feature reporting, including stories on Jacob deGrom’s return from his second Tommy John surgery and FAMU baseball’s first regular-season SWAC championship. My work reflects a commitment to centering both the subject and the audience, ensuring stories are not only informative, but meaningful.
I am particularly interested in covering college baseball and expanding the way the sport is represented, with a focus on the intersection of sports and culture. My goal is to continue growing as a reporter while contributing to coverage that is insightful, accurate, and impactful. I would welcome the opportunity to contribute to a newsroom that values thoughtful, in-depth sports reporting.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Alyssa Cooper
